All in a Morning’s Work: Wheat Ridge Dream Dinners Team Packs 52,000 Meals
The Wheat Ridge Dream Dinners team recently hosted their second Fight Against Hunger event in partnership with Friends and Family Community Connection (FFCC). Hosted at the Faith Bible Chapel in Arvada, approximately 350 eager volunteers of all ages spent their Saturday morning packing more than 50,000 non-perishable meals.
Specifically designed to help reverse the effects of malnutrition, the meals include rice, protein, vitamins, and dehydrated vegetables.
About one-third of the meals were distributed to Denver’s Action Center’s Prosperity Project, which helps individuals in need break the cycle of generational poverty by transitioning into housing.
The remaining meals will go to Haiti, which has been hit hard by major hurricanes. FFCC has been working in Haiti over the past several years to help farmers create sustainable food sources.
Volunteers were also able to raise nearly $20,000 for the Arvada food bank.
“We had kids here as young as 3 years old, as well as people up to 80 years old that were able to get together and help. It’s real community building. People get to work with their neighbors and do something really great. Our customers and partners have been wonderful and continue to show their dedication through their service,” said Jim Eddy, Wheat Ridge Franchise owner.
Wheat Ridge franchisees are already looking forward to next year’s goal to pack more than 100,000 meals, doubling this year’s efforts.
